Class Information

Ages 3-5

Twinkle Toes

Twinkle Toes is a 45-minute creative movement class for 3–5-year-old movers. This class will help in expanding expressive capabilities, improving listening skills, fostering social skills, and developing musicality.

Dress Code: clothes that are comfortable to move around in, bare feet

**This class does have a recital dance at the end of the year.

Sparkle Toes

Sparkle Toes is a 45-minute Tap and Ballet Combo class for 3–5-year-old movers that provides technical dance basics including stretching, rhythm, coordination, and a strong foundation for continued dance training.

Dress Code: clothes that are comfortable to move around in, tap shoes, ballet flats

**This class has one ballet and one tap dance in the recital.

Ages 5-7

Fancy Feet

Fancy Feet is a 60-minute Tap and Ballet Combo class that provides the fundamentals of ballet and tap technique including musicality, basic terminology, ballet etiquette, and strong tap sounds.

Dress Code: clothes that are comfortable to move around in, tap shoes, ballet flats

**This class has one ballet and one tap dance in the recital.

Funky Feet

Funky Feet is a 60-minute Hip Hop and Jazz Combo class that is performed with upbeat music and high energy movements and basic jazz technique.

Dress Code: clothes that are comfortable to move around in, clean tennis shoes and black jazz shoes

**This class has one hip hop and one jazz dance in the recital.

Ballet

Levels 1 through 5

Through the Vaganova method, Ballet classes will help dancers with posture, flexibility, fitness, balance, self-discipline, and self-confidence. Students are taught proper body placement, body alignment, barre and center floor work, along with across the floor combinations. Each level increases in difficulty in technicality, expressivity and performance quality, and vocabulary.

Dress Code: fitted clothes that are comfortable to move around in, ballet shoes without holes, hair secured away from face

**This class does not have a recital dance. however, dancers enrolled in ballet may participate in the ballet production for recital.

Tap

Levels 1 through 5

Tap focuses on rhythms and patterns in footwork through proper technique, as well as personal style and producing clear sounds. each level increases in difficulty in technicality, expressivity and performance quality, and vocabulary.

Dress Code: clothes that are comfortable to move around in, tap shoes (Jason Samuel smith tap shoes are required for tap 4 and tap 5), hair secured away from face

Jazz

Levels 1 through 5

Jazz dance combines techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with current forms of popular dance. Classes include warm up, isolations, stretches, across the floor progressions, and choreography combinations. each level increases in difficulty in technicality, expressivity and performance quality, and vocabulary.

Dress Code: fitted clothes that are comfortable to move around in, jazz shoes, turners, or bare feet, hair secured away from face

Required prerequisite: must be currently enrolled and regularly attending a ballet class at UDS

Contemporary

Levels 1 through 5

Contemporary blends several types of dance into its own unique style. It includes elements of ballet, jazz, modern, and even hip hop. This style of dance encourages the freedom of expression, improvisation, innovation and creative exploration of movement. Each level increases in difficulty in technicality, expressivity and performance quality, and vocabulary.

Required prerequisite: must be currently enrolled and regularly attending a ballet class at UDS

Hip Hop

Levels 1 through 5

Hip Hop is the pinnacle of self-expression. Classes include warm-up, moving across the floor, style exploration (popping, locking, waving, gliding, isolations, footwork combinations, house, etc), choreographic combinations, and freestyle. Each level increases in difficulty and technicality, expressivity and performance quality, and vocabulary.

Pre-Pointe & Pointe

Pre-Pointe

Pre-Pointe is a pre-requisite for pointe work and is designed for students ages 9 and up who are also currently enrolled in preliminary ballet, ballet 3, ballet 4, or ballet 5. Students will be assessed via pre-pointe evaluations periodically throughout the year to determine readiness for pointe work.

Required prerequisite: must be currently enrolled and regularly attending a ballet class at uds

Beginning, Intermediate, & Advanced pointe

Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique while working in pointe shoes. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work and across the floor combinations. These exercises focus on strengthening the feet and ankles. Each level increases in difficulty in technicality, expressivity and performance quality, and vocabulary.

Dress Code: fitted clothes that are comfortable to move around in, pointe shoes that are not dead, hair secured away from face

Required prerequisite: must be currently enrolled and regularly attending a ballet class at UDS

Acro

All Levels

Acro is a dance genre which emphasizes strength and flexibility and teaches students skills related to contortion and tumbling. Acro utilizes balance, flexibility, strength, coordination and body control to perform a variety of jumps, poses, rolls, and flips/tricks on the floor.

Dance Team Technique

Elementary, Middle, & High School Ages

Dance team technique focuses on preparation and supplemental technique for elementary, middle, and high school dance team, focusing on pom and hip hop styles. Dance team technique will include ballet technique, stretching, conditioning, basic dance terminology and foundation, pom and hip hop technique and choreography.

Dress Code: clothes that are comfortable to move around in, both turners and clean tennis shoes

**This class does have a recital dance at the end of the year (the teacher will choose between pom or hip hop).

Preliminary Dance

Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, & Contemporary

Preliminary dance classes are for dancers ages 11-18 with little to know prior dance experience. Preliminary classes will start with basics skills and technique and progress quickly to prepare dancers to ultimately join a leveled class of each respected style.

Jazz Dress Code: fitted clothes that are comfortable to move around in, jazz shoes, turners, or bare feet, hair secured away from face

Hip hop Dress Code: clothes that are comfortable to move around in, clean tennis shoes

Contemporary Dress Code: clothes that are comfortable to move around in, turners or bare feet, hair secured away from face

**Only tap, jazz, hip hop, and contemporary classes do have a recital dance at the end of the year. however, dancers enrolled in ballet may participate in the ballet production for recital.

Yoga

Youth and Adult Yoga

Yoga is a practice that combines physical postures, breathing exercises, and meditation to connect the body, breath, and mind.

Adult Dance

Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Contemporary

Adult dance classes are for dancers ages 18+ with modifications for all levels!
